What to Prepare Before Ordering Signage
by Unsignedco

Ordering signage is much easier when the production team can understand the site, the objective and the artwork from the start. You do not need to know every technical detail, but a few simple pieces of information can make quoting, design, manufacture and installation more accurate.
Good preparation helps avoid delays. It also gives the signage team enough context to recommend the right material, size, fixing method and finish before anything is printed, cut or fabricated.
Take Clear Site Photos
Photos are one of the most useful things you can send. Wide shots show the full frontage or wall, while closer photos show the surface, existing fixings, lighting, power points and any obstacles. If possible, take photos from the direction customers will approach.
For outdoor signage, include nearby roads, neighbouring signs and access points. For internal signage or wall graphics, include the full wall, floor-to-ceiling height and anything that cannot be moved.
Provide Approximate Sizes
Exact survey measurements can be taken later if needed, but rough dimensions are helpful at enquiry stage. Width, height and available fixing area allow the team to estimate scale and suggest options that will actually fit the space.
If you are replacing an existing sign, measure the current panel or tray. If the space is new, measure the maximum area you would be comfortable using rather than only the size you initially imagine.
Send The Best Artwork You Have
Vector artwork is usually best for signs, lettering and print because it can be scaled cleanly. Files such as AI, EPS, SVG or print-ready PDF are often more useful than a small logo copied from a website.
If you only have a low-resolution image, send it anyway and explain what you have. The design team can advise whether it can be used, recreated or improved before production.
Share Practical Details
Installation access, deadlines, landlord rules, trading hours and whether power is available can all affect the plan. A sign that needs fitting above a shopfront on a busy street may require a different approach from an indoor reception sign.
If you have a launch date, event date or shop opening, mention it early. That helps the team plan artwork approval, production, delivery and fitting around the deadline.
